Fremantle: Ferry trip to Fremantle

A ferry trip to Fremantle is well worth it. Pick Captain Cook because they know how to treat you with a nice cuppa included (or you can use the bar) and the fare is quite cheap. Ferry leaves at 9.45am and 11am in the morning. If you choose a return journey there's free wine tasting on the way back. We've had some lovely vt meetings at Freo, so feel free to ask me if you would like me to arrange one and I'll see what I can do.Freo

Rottnest Island (or Rotto, as the locals call it) is definately a must for a day trip from Perth. Rotto has awesome beaches, fantastic snorkling, bike hire for riding around the island, accommodation, camping, kids activities,a lovely restaurant overlooking the water, and cute little Quokkas native to Rotto only. Directions: Ferry leaves from Perth jetty, or arrange at your hotel to be picked up by Rottnest Fast Ferries that leave from Hillarys - this will be more expensive but Hillarys Boat Harbour is lovely. If you are staying at Freo, ferrys leave from B Shed wharf.

If you love wine, then a day trip out to our famous Swan Valley should be at the top of your list of must do's. It's also good for beer drinkers and chocolate addicts too :o) The Swan Valley is not far at all from Perth (you can pick up info at the Tourist Information Centre and a map as well) and there are loads of choices for day trips. My favourite is the Captain Cook cruise. They have a full day tour and a half day one. I would totally recommend this way to do the trip to our famous Swan Valley! Here's a pic of janebellinoz (Jane from London) and me at our first tasting in the Swan Valley.Swan Valley

If you want to get up close and personal with a kangaroo or koala then Caversham Wildlife Park is the place to go. Caversham Wildlife Park is in our famous Swan Valley. You can book day tours through the Perth Information Centre or hire a car and visit it for yourselves. Caversham is part of Whiteman Park which is a lovely way to experience the Australian bush. Things To Do: Hillarys Boat Harbour

Hillarys Boat Harbour is about 20 minutes north of Perth and is a fabulous place to go. If you have kids it has water slides and the best fish & chip shop in town. You can travel to Rottnest Island from there also. It has nice accommodation and an underwater world too for the kids. The shops are quaint tourist ones. It has a yummy ice cream shop also. Oh and Jetties Restaurant is my favourite. You can have a buffet lunch or dinner and view the lovely sunset over the water. I have more pix on my Mullalloo page. Here's the link...Hillarys Boat Harbour

Aqua at Hillarys Boat Harbour is definately worth visiting if you have kids. The underwater aquarium is awesome with huge sharks and stingrays. They even have a touch pool for the kids to touch stingrays and star fish etc. I couldn't get my young son away from it and he ended up really wet. Here's a pic of flurescent jellyfish. Looks like a humungous lava lamp.

This is really a "must do" tip. The Moon and Sixpence Pub is a quaint Irish pub in Murray street, top end of Murray Street Mall. It's a great place to have a few drinks and people watch. It also has quite a good lunch menu & usually a good evening starter. We've had quite a few lovely vt meetings here - check out the pix inside. I love the outdoorsy atmosphere and ambience. It also has some good entertainment in the night and a quaint little dance floor to kick your heals up.

The Bell Tower is a significant icon here in Perth. Located right on the water front of the famous Swan River, it is a focal meeting point as well as inhereting an old historical charm. Not one much for history or details of how it got there, I just accept it for mostly what it is with us locals, a vt meeting mark........'just look for the Lucky Shag pub, near the Bell Tower on Barrack Street jetty and you'll find us....can't miss it!!' .......haha :o)
Anyway, here's a different view....the famous Bell Tower by night.
