The last divided capital in the world is - surprisingly, perhaps - also one of the friendliest. The local version Checkpoint Charlie (see pic) lies in the middle of a small and well-preserved old city centre. Combined with a very pleasant climate and a well-developed economy it offers all the tourist could wish for. And although most travelers visit Nicosia on a day trip from their coastal resorts, there's enough to see and do here to keep you occupied for a few days.
