"Days in Berlin" a Berlin Travel Page by tvdm

The first time I went to Berlin I was on a day trip (as you do...) I took the first flight out of Amsterdam, arrived at 8.30 in the morning and flew out again after 6 in the evening. Such a day is, of course, way too short to get a good sense of such a big city. But at least I got a taste for its sights and thanks to some EXTREME walking I managed to cram in as many things as humanly possible. But then, 2 years later, I went back twice for a long weekend to expand and deepen the experience. And I didn't get disappointed!

From my limited list of impressions, I found Berlin not a particularly beautiful city. It doesn't have the overall imposing character of Paris, nor does it boast as many big and different sights as London. Wartime destruction, the Berlin Wall and late city planning make for a city where old and new, interesting and downright dull freely mix together. But what I must say for Berlin: its shopping and nightlife must be second to none. You get that sense from everywhere you walk and I guess that whole Love Parade thing must be good for something :)
