Luggage And Bags: If you're staying in a hotel, any type is ok, as the bellhop will lug it up for you. If u're backpacking, something easy to carry and not too big, as most guesthouses are on the top floor and accessible through a steep staircase.
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: As the monsoon season is for more than 6 months, expect torrential downpours during such months: Dec to March and May to Sept. Usually during the afternoon, bring an umbrella unless you are willing to wait it out (usually less than an hour) at a nearby building/shelter. You're likely to get soaked otherwise.
Toiletries & Medical Supplies: You can get most every type of toiletries and medical supplies at the many pharmacies. You can get over the counter medications by signing the 'poisons' book.
Photo Equipment: Most battery types are available at the many photo shops throughout KL. You can get away with 100 speed if photographing outdoors. But can use 200 just to be safe.
Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Not much room for camping in KL. As for the beach, nearest would be the pebbly Klang (v. dirty, no one swims there). Usual swimwear, including bikinis can be worn at your nearest pool.
Miscellaneous: Mineral water as you will lose a lot of water through perspiration. You can try the roadside drinks- fruit juices, air bandung (rose syrup with condensed milk), soya bean milk, but some people's stomachs may not be able to take those, esp. if they include ice.
