I'll Take Manhattan...

Way-Cool Chrysler Building

A Great City to Get to Know

I had my first real job in NYC - lived on the Upper West side (W88th Street) and worked at Young & Rubicam. Before retiring in 2005, I would get up to my employer's NYC office at least twice a year on business. Our daughter has lived in NYC since graduating from college. She's lived on Staten Island, then Astoria, Queens, then just off Park Avenue in Spanish Harlem, and now on the lower east side (Stuyvesanttown) -- Luckily my Mom taught me to write "kid's" addresses in the address book in PENCIL because they move often! So, anyway, we still head up Rt 95 to visit several times a year. Sometimes we stay in the city, sometimes at her place. We all love New York.

This looks like Europe, right?

NOT! It's one of the gardens at the Cloisters museum, in Fort Tryon Park at West 190th St. I took too many pictures and wanted to get this pretty quince tree up someplace.

Hunter College - Manhattan

Yeah, I'm proud! My daughter just picked up a Master's degree in Bilingual Education. (picked up? That sounds too easy -- going to school while teaching full-time was quite a challenge, and we're terrifically proud of her!) We drove up for a long weekend (January 2006) to share the in the celebration. Hunter is located on the East side of Manhattan, and they've got this great pedestrian walk over the street -- we weren't the only people to use it as a backdrop for graduation pictures.

Pros:"The most Exciting City in the US"
Cons:"You can do it on the cheap, but $$$ really makes a difference"
In A Nutshell:"If you can make it here, you'll make it anywhere...(ouch, you know the rest?)"

great nyc page which I shall go thru in detail tonite. I am sad to inform you however that one of our favorite places, crispo, is out of business when the owner of the space raised the rent too high for him to continue.
