We aren't REALLY beach people...however when we and our family were younger, it was a great spot for a family vacation. There's something about soft sand and the sound of waves washing the shoreline that is instantly relaxing.

Since we moved to North Carolina in 2005, we have checked out several spots along NC's long and beautiful coast -- the Outer Banks, Topsail, Emerald, Atlantic, the Crystal Coast, all the way down to Myrtle Beach SC. But as we are older we also find we want to be able to enjoy exploring something besides the surf, sand and shells. It's only a couple hours drive to Wilmington, NC and several beautiful nearby beaches from our place in Durham, and the idea that we can take advantage of a spur-of-the-moment beach vacation in the shoulder and off-season months has taken us to Wrightsville Beach twice just this year.

Every time we go, we find something new and different to make us want to go back.
