Our day with a group of friends from London, Montreal and South Africa, came to a close in a table in the treetops, amid candles, torches, lanterns and fabulous entertainment. Moyo is a large place on the grounds of Spier, just outside of Stellenbosch. Tables are under tents or in the trees. There are wonderful constructed waterfalls and fountains and firepits to add to the exotic setting. Live entertainment performs on a stage and also strolls among the grounds performing just for you! . We stayed until midnight. What a grand party!
This picture compliments of our guide, Selwyn Davidowitz - pictured center- www.ilovecapetown.com Sel is a great guy and a terrific guide to Cape Town and environs.

Favorite Dish: The wonderful buffet -- well there's everything you could imagine! This is not your standard buffet. They'll grill lamb, chicken, fish, game for you on the spot, or you can try interesting stews and soups. Here is were I fell in love with springbok...and they had some terrific couscous and vegetables for sides among many many choices.

Quay Four: Great Place to Celebrate
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Restaurant Name: Quay Four

This is a BIG restaurant. We had spent most of the day touring Cape Town by the "seat of our pants" and had done quite well for ourselves. (That sunset from the cable car was hot!) We'd started at the waterfront, and decided to splurge on our first night in South Africa, so we came back to the waterfront and chose Quay Four. We were seated on the upper level in the far corner with a fantastic view of the dining room, as well as the water to our right. The waitstaff was very friendly and welcoming. We ordered all three courses and a great bottle of South African wine.

Favorite Dish: I had a terrific seafood entree, but a couple near us ordered the seafood platter which was gigantic! I think you really would have to share one of these...although we later learned that portions in South Africa are generally even bigger than what we find in the US. Steve had a delicious rack of lamb. You won't go hungry!

For us (we're used to DC and NYC prices) this was quite reasonable, but it probably is pricey by local standards. Usually we avoid restaurants smack in the middle of tourist attractions, but this was a VERY good experience. And it was easy to get a cab for the short ride back to our B&B.

ZeroNineThreeTwo - 0932: Belgian Beer, International Fare
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Restaurant Name: ZeroNineThreeTwo - 0932

This was our first meal in Cape Town -- we walked about five blocks from our guest house to the main road, (aptly named Main Road), to this spot, as recommended by Lyzelle the concierge. 0932 is the country code when dialing Belgium.

We sat outside watching passersby and felt quite welcome in South Africa.

Favorite Dish: I had mussels, of course -- I'm always up for mussels, and Steve had a luncheon special which featured our first tast of Kingklip -- a very tasty local fish we were always after happy to see on menus :-) A couple glasses of Belgian beer (on tap) and we were ready for our afternoon explorations!

Cafe Paradiso: A view of Table Mountain - wonderful deck seating
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]

  • Restaurant Name: Cafe Paradiso

This was our last meal in South Africa and Cape Town -- sigh -- the end of our wonderful vacation. We'd spent the morning at Kirstenbosch Gardens, and drove into town for lunch before we had to turn in the rental at the airport -- sigh -- and check in for our flight to London -- sigh -- and then home.
We found good parking a few blocks away (we knew the neighborhood from from our previous visit --a week before! -- to Cape Town).

Favorite Dish: I had a totally yummy salad, lettuce, baby
spinach chickpeas, grilled aubergines and peppers finished off with a warm tomato dressing and goats cheese crostini. It seemed as if we were the only tourists that day as most of the rest of the clientele were locals on lunch break. (May isn't really top tourist season...but we found it to be ideal. ) It was a glorious afternoon to eat on the deck out front. I think I also had a nice glass of Sauvignon Blanc. sigh. heaven....such a nice memory and SO much better than airplane food. Which we knew we'd be stuck with for the next who-knows-how-many hours it was!

You are right, the only con is the flight! We really (really) liked this country. Like you we are used to driving on the other side of the road but it was not a problem. Enjoy
