Everyone was friendly & hospitable and service everywhere was excellent, almost 'old world' in style.
The historic things - the pyramids for example - are mind-boggling, even though you've seen them a million times in photos and films.
What I'd like to do is go back to visit Aswan and Abu Simbel, probably staying on a floating hotel.

Alexandria and Cairo are very different. Alex being a seaside city with cleaner air, far fewer people, much less traffic, easier to get around.
The original historic library of Alexandria, one of the world's great centres of knowledge and learning, was destroyed nearly 2,000 years ago. A new, huge library was opened in 2002 in a location close to the site of the original and is a must-see.
A trip through the countryside is a fasinating journey. A mixture of modern buildings, luxurious villas, old farms, people washing their clothes in the river...many scenes which haven't changed for many centuries.
