| Beautiful architecture on the lake. |
On a trip through parts of Europe we spent a few days in Lucerne and it was the highlight of the trip.
Without a doubt it's one of my favourite cities, one I'll visit again and spend more time getting to know.
It's not large, only about 60,000 population, but because of tourism - a reported 5 million tourists a year - it has facilities and amenities of cities much larger in size.
As always, we loved the historic old town. The recorded history goes back over 800 years so there's plenty for history buffs to appreciate.
The city is built around the River Reuss and the lake. It's clean, fresh, open, with ploenty to see and do. The old quarter is where we spent just about all our time, with its beautiful buildings, qaiunt little side streets, small squares, a thriving cafe culture, excellent food
