A tiny part of The Grand Palace
We'd been to Thailand three or four times for fairly short visits and always had a great time, so we decided to spend much longer there in 2000. We stayed for a week in Bangkok, two weeks in Phuket then a month in Pattaya.

Bangkok's changed - more polluted than ever and now full of con men, which we never encountered in the past. It's worth spending a couple of days there, but I really wouldn't stay much longer than that. You must have time to see the Grand Palace, which is a mind-boggling huge complex of many stunning buildings, and take a trip on the Chao Phraya river.

Phuket and Pattaya are much better and have the same market stalls, great shopping bargains and night markets, night life, restaurants - and they have beaches. Chaing Mai up in the north is well worth a visit too, if you have time.

I've put a few tips on my individual destination pages and there's also a Travelogue with more photos which I hope you enjoy looking at. To go to it, just click on the link.

You've done a very nice travelogue on Thailand. I was there some years ago. In Bangkok I also thought the Palace was great.
