History is all around you. The Long Bridge with its 24 spans originated in the 13th century. There's an old Pannier Market, open twice a week but its Butchers Row shops are open all week. There are many other fascinating shops including a variety of antique shops.
The museum in Victoria Park shows the history of the town, still a working port and once the third largest port in England. Exhibits include that of the last ever hangings for witchcraft in England, after The Bideford witch trial in 1682 involving three women,Temperance Lloyd, Mary Trembles and Susannah Edwards.
