"Ancient Roman Verulamium" St Albans by colin_bramso

St Albans Travel Guide: 176 reviews and 429 photos

St Albans is an attractive and very old town with an interesting mix of architecural styles spanning hundreds of years.

People were living here thousands of years ago and during the Roman period it was the second largest city in Britain, then called Verulamium. There are still remains of Roman buildings to be seen.

There are many attractive buildings in the town centre, spanning hundreds of years and representing many different architectural styles.

The main St Peters Street is the location for markets every Wednesday and Saturday and there are also specialist markets on various other days throughout the year.
