A small typical Hertfordshire village on the outskirts of Welwyn Garden City. It was here many years before WGC was designed and constructed and is called Old Welwyn by residents of WGC, much to the irritation of the villagers.

Population is around 5,000 with most living in new housing developments around the village. The village centre, though, remains much has it was in days gone by when it was a coaching stop on the main road north from London for the horse-drawn stage coaches.

We like the Red Lion pub for an evening meal, which I've included in my Restaurant Tips. It used to be a typical traditional village pub serving traditional food but it's recently changed to a gastro pub, which didn't please the regulars!

The village has a selection of pubs, most being hundreds of years old. We still haven't tried them all - I must arrange a pub crawl on a future visit (in the interests of research for VT of course!)
