Sydney is capital of the State of New South Wales and is Australia's largest city with a population of around 4 million. Radiating out north, south and west from one of the world's great harbours, there is stunning scenery all around the city. The intense blue sky that I have seen nowhere but Australia is reflected in the water, which sparkles with the bright sunshine we get for much of the year.
The centrepiece, of course, is the harbour with its instantly recognisable symbols of Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. But there is so much more to Sydney. There are leafy residential areas right on the harbour in the centre of Sydney. There's even a golf course only one kilometre from the northern end of Sydney Harbour Bridge! There are many attractive parks and superb beaches. Just about every type of food you can imagine is available from literally thousands of cafes and restaurants. There are many venues for entertainment ranging from every type of live music to theatre, cinema and comedy. Plenty of pubs and clubs. Accommodation from backpacker to five star luxury. Sightseeing tours are available by foot, boat, motorcycle, 'plane and bus. You can walk across the Harbour Bridge for free, or pay to climb right to the top.
