REYKJAVIK<<<<<COLD VALLEY TOUR PT. 1>>>>>COLD VALLEY TOUR PT. 2
ICELAND
Thursday 17th June 2004
2ND DAY in Iceland :
In Reykjavik, at Siggi's place : We started early; Although I was not ready to wake up ! Siggi kept on calling my name...I was on the sofa still daydreaming...
Finally, I woke...lazily going to the bathroom taking shower.
We had a small breakfast...then of we went to the city centre because Siggi said today (17th June) was Iceland National Holiday !
Downtown...nothing was started yet ! maybe the President was still sleeping !
Siggi said due to the hangover that he had previous night !
We left Reykjavik, we went east bound direction, passed Raudholar (Red Hills) to Thingvellir National Park; Along the way, passing the power station at Nesjavellir, me taking lots of photos already !
In the national park, we made a stop at the Hotel Valholl, I climbed up the hills at the back of the hotel to see the canyons of Almannagja (Public Canyon).
From there, we continued to The Cold Valley.
It was a remote area of deserted barren land; Filled with glaciers, streams...Very cold ! Brrr...
It was a 3 hours ride ! I was really amazed of what I saw !
Siggi was talking to me so many things about the place ! We planned about this trip for like 7 months & I was realy happy that we managed to get it off the grounds !
Siggi really is a walking-dictionary ! Thanks to the great weather !
I touched the snow !
We got out from the Cold Valley & had our late lunch (3 pm) in an OASIS in this wasteland !...Called Husafell.
We had sandwiches....what else !
Lying on the grass...blah ! blah ! blah !
We went from Husafell to Hraunfossar & Barnafossar waterfalls.
Then, we crossed the Hvita River means 'white' river to Borgarnes.
In Bogarnes we planned for our next itineraries...
We decided on seeing Glymur, the highest waterfall in Iceland !
Driving around the beautiful Hvalfjordur (Whale Fjord).
Only me got out from the car & hiked to see the waterfall...It was hard !
It took me nearly 2 hours going & back to Siggi?s comfort.
We drove back to Reykjavik...Slept early !
Note : The 3 photos on this page were NOT taken in THE COLD VALLEY, but rather the sights that I saw prior to reaching The Cold Valley & also out from that cold place !
The following day...another excursion for me !
GOLDEN CIRCLE TOUR !
Watch This Space...

Siggi told me so much about The Cold Valley in our emails 7 to 8 months before I reached Iceland ! Finally, I had the chance to see the 'thing' that he was on about.
17th June is also Iceland National Day ! Dropped by at The Town Square to see some choirs & speeches (not that I understood anyway).
Then, Siggi droved out from Reykjavik & into the wilderness known as The Cold Valley, passing some scenic landscapes, red hills, mountains, dry volcanic fields...Everything was so surreal ! Can be compared to the surface of the moon ? Almost !
Also known as Kaldidalur in Icelandic, The Cold Valley is closed during the winter season ! Photos later...
