When you are doing some excursions around Iceland like whale-watching; Puffins-watching etc....Just be prepared NOT to see any of them !
Some people that I met told me that they paid high money for some excursions but left disappointedly.
Some ferries also might cancell their services due to the high tides & sea conditions.
Money back guaranteed ?
Better ask the companies who advertised those excursions !
When venturing into Iceland wilderness, make sure you have enough foods in your backpack otherwise you would be starved for a few hours (if not days) before you could find a place to buy something to chew into your stomach...
Also, bring enough cash with you as ATM machines are not always possible to find in all the remote places in Iceland.
You never know when you need the actual cash to move around in Iceland...
I have to mention this !
What you read about a place or a service in Iceland might be different from the actual situations !
The Blue Lagoon is closed at 11 pm in summer (they quoted this), but you have to enter the place BEFORE 9 pm ! (They don't quote this).
When you buy a bus pass, make sure you understand the routes that are covered by that particular bus pass because the route map that they give you might also include some routes which you can ONLY get some discounts on the bus tickets...
Bus Passes are valid NOT on time basis but rather on day basis.
If you have a day ticket, that means you can only use it until 12 am (12 midnight to most of us...) on the same day & not till the following day !
For example, if you use your pass at 4 pm, that pass would valid until 12 am on the same day, meaning you use it for 8 hours only & NOT till 4 pm of the following day...
Accomodation-wise, you would find nice hotels & campgrounds, plus farm houses & The Youth Hostels around Iceland.
It's wise to book ahead or call on the previous day before you reach the place.
Otherwise, you could set up a tent, almost anywhere in Iceland, except maybe in Reykjavik.
If the weather permitting, it would nice to sleep in a tent; In a bad weather, you need a good tent to stay alive !
For people having their own transports, travelling around Iceland :
In general, Iceland has very good road conditions & less traffics on the roads most of the times.
Venture into the Iceland's wilderness, you would expect to drive wet terrains, steep hills...with no safety barriers whatsoever on the left or on the right of the roads !
You either keep on treading the roads or you back off !
For cyclists, this would be a nightmare ! You need the extra strength to cycle up the steep hills & then extra more grips when it goes downhills !
You would experience all kinds of weathers when in Iceland !
The south of Iceland would be more wet, rainy; While the north would be more colder !
Some regions or places would be closed to tourists/hikers if the weather is 'out of hand' !
Nevertheless, there's always unpredictablity on these weathers.
You would reach a place with a good weather, good enough to take photos but the next day it would be thunderstorms & heavy rains...
True ! Iceland is so expensive but that only depends on your own lifestyles !
I can only tell you this based solely on my own experiences around Iceland.
Reaching Iceland itself is not that expensive because there are some cheap air fares that you could get on the Net, especially Iceland Express.
The foods, the drinks, the bus fares, the 'organized tours' are some considerations that you have to be aware of before reaching Iceland.
