Almost !..We Are In Opatija...

VOLOSKO<<<<<OPATIJA>>>>>PULA

CROATIATuesday 1st July 2003Arrived first in Opatija on the night of 30th June 2003, Monday....with Ivan; Had more cruising around the town, with no Ivan around; on the following day, Tuesday.
I sure liked what I saw....The shops along the main road; The nice Habsburg-styled buildings along the road....& many people along the road !....
I was thinking to myself that the holiday season had started for Croatians.....but I van told me that most of the people were Austrians, Germans & Italians....
We walked along the main road...You see, Opatija survives along the main road !.....It didn't seem that we were in Croatia....It was seemed to me that we were in somewhere very expensive !....
Ivan told me 'Welcome To Istria !'...
We had dinner at this nice restaurants....affordable for us, but very nice surrounding as well...
Ivan knew about this place...liked a 2nd home to him....maybe his playground....
We checked for a probable room for me to stay for the night...& was told about the supplement that I had to pay if I wanted to stay less than 3 nights.....Now, what the guidebook says ring very loudly to me....
Had the chance to walk through the park.....wonder how it would look like during the day....
It was late for Ivan to get back to Slovenia, we decided that I wanted to stay at a camping ground near Volosko....I guess it's more convenience for me to explore Volosko & Opatija the following day...
We checked in & found a good spot for me & I slept off....another busy & hectic day for me was over....
The following day......
Woke up early...about 7 am (to me this was early, normally i wake up at 11 or 12 pm in my room in KL...) & told the reception boy that I wanted to walk to Volosko & Opatija, taking photos & do some walkings....
From there..it was a nice walk all the way.....It was early morning...feeling good; taking photos...& from not-so-distance, seeing Opatija....very nice !
Walking along the sea...the esplanade.....seeing some nice buildings, not medieval but the remnants of what used to be lavish & elegant dwellings for the rich & famous last 2 centuries....
I came to the park that me & Ivan strolled in the previous night....it was a nice park....Park Angiolina is the name...It was the park for the rich & famous last 2 centuries...
So, that's Opatija....the playground for the rich & famous last 2 centuries...& maybe for Ivan as well...He ! He !..
I came to more lavish hotels for modern days travellers/holiday makers....& impressive buildings they are !....
Came to the bus station & enquired about the bus to Pula....was told that I didn't have to back track to Rijeka...Good !...
Took the local bus which bounded to Rijeka to get back to the camping ground where I left my luggage...It was sardine-packed....Thinking to myself that these people were from Rijeka, who came to Opatija for fun...
Collected my luggage...& had to catch the bus bounded from Rijeka to Opatija...again sardined-packed....with more people coming to patija for some fun...what else ?...
Waited for the bus to Pula....& the bus was late by 1 hour & 10 minutes....!
