First arrived here at 9 am from Rovinj, checked the bus back to Rovinj & it would be at 3 pm ! No way I would want to spend one whole day long in Porec, maybe I could but I didn't want to. You know, after a while looking at towns by the harbour, I thought I saw everything. We all have this feeling, right ?
Walked along the harbour & saw many many excursions offered by the boats, lied along the harbour. Maybe I should join to a remote island where men never been before or maybe I should join an excursion where men always go to. Thinking.
Came upon this round trip excursion to Crveni Otok (Red Island), Limska Draga Fjord & Rovinj then, back to Porec. Sounded good. Not sure.
I opned my mouth. I asked if it was possible to have a stop in Rovinj, without coming back to Porec, the bear-type guy said "yes !". Yes ? Okay. Get me on board then.
I had to pay the full amount but after calculating some figures in my head, it was worth the trip because I could go to 2 amazing places this side of Dalmatia !
It cost me 150 Kn. Cheap. Well, I should say affordable.
The boat was nice. Full of people, kids. Just thinking to myself that those people were Scandinavians because there were too many 'blond' on board. No, I didn't open my mouth & ask.
First, we sailed in front of Zelena Laguna. A resort by the blue sea. We didn't stop here but seeing the resort from the sea was nice not to mention some naturists (well, nudists) who waved at us as if to say, come & join us 'au naturel'. Maybe they were not naturists but somebody stole their clothes & left them there ? We sailed on.
A few more hours, we entered Limska Draga Fjord & had my fish lunch at this spot. I still remember the captain announced by loud speaker "The People With Fish Set Menu Can Go Down & Have Their Meals...Only The Fish Menu.."...as the other menu was meat, so 'meat' people had to wait.
Limska Draga Fjord was nice. To me, they looked like cliffs with rocks but the formations were beautiful. Do all fjords look like this?
While having our meal, birds....white birds, don't know their name, maybe puffins. Came in their hundreds, at us....circling the boat; as if they knew that they would be lucky to have their meals from us.
The guys who worked on the boat threw the left-overs from our plates at these birds & these birds would attacked one another for a piece of their meals. Fun to watch & one bird nearly snatched my cap. What was he thinking ? Did I smell fishy ?
This would carry one for about 1 hour & the next stop for us was Crveni Otok (Red Island).
Why is it called Red Island, I didn't ask but the scenario was really nice. Actually, it's 2 islands linked together with an embankment that we could walk on, linking the 2 islands together.
One island is a resort island, with a beautiful hotel, an old church. The other island was a nudist heaven, full of nice rocks & coves & naked bodies. Lying from one end to another. The naturists are lucky people, they always get good spots for themself. Now how do I know this ? As if the clothes-people get the normal looking beaches & the naturists should be near to unspoiled nature. We could join them of course but not necessarily we have to join in their lifesytle. Just to pay some respects,
why not ?.
We were here for a good 1 & a half hours...

The 2nd time I was in Porec was just the following day when I bought a Catamaran ticket in Rovinj but had to take the Catamaran from Porec. It departed from there to Venice !
On that day, after arriving from Rovinj by KOMPAS van, we were asked to line up on a queue, checking our passports & on board the Catamaran. I didn't even have ample time to snap some good photos because there was a grandmother & grandson couple in front of me who wanted to chat to me. So there, the last time I saw Porec.
I didn't have enough time to see Porec properly. I read about some monuments or maybe churches in Porec, but just didn't have the time to see these things.
To me at least, Porec looked like a resort town, full of people & maybe more touristy than Rovinj judging from some people that I talked to : Americans, British, Australians...etc.
Come here if you have the time & the will. Take a boat excursion to your own private heaven. Take a walk around Porec...
Hey ! We could reach Venice from here as well !

All the photos on this page are not taken in Porec but my excursion around The Limska Draga Fjords & also The Red Island, a boat excursion that I took started in Porec but ended up in Rovinj...

As we were out from The Limska Draga Fjords, the seagulls would become less & less...maybe no more to eat from us... more travel advice
