OPATIJA<<<<<PULA>>>>>ROVINJ
CROATIA
The bus was late from Opatija & next to me was a couple from Sweden....We were talking about life in general....comparing things from our countries, talking about people's behaviours, ...& cost of living in Sweden 'cos I told that I would be going there in 2004, maybe....
Didn't have the chance to even look out the window because we sort of heavy in our discussions...
Reaching the bus station in Pula...Decided to see the Roman Amphitheater right away....Asking for the direction...here it is called The Arena....
It's not far from the bus station, almost just behind it, but the winding roads make it a long turn....
It was impressive even from the outside....Approaching the ticket counter & nobody was there....There was a police guy standing by the entrance & waved his hand to me to ' just enter, don't have to pay...nobody's there at the counter'...sign....
I just smiled at him & thanked the guy....who was busy talking with another police guy....
Inside, it was more impressive...There was a concert just held the previous night, looking at the chairs & the big stage.. or was it Croatian Film Award Ceremony...
Bumped into the Swedish couple again...told them that I entered the place free !...
Out from The Arena...bought some postcards....& walked to the Old Town....
It was nice....many monuments, more old Roman buidlings & churches, Click ! Click!...the sounds of my camera....
walking along back to the bus station & saw this Internet sign...went in. Got connected....emailing all my friends & foes about me, lacking of funds to continue my journey.....
Got back to the bus station....& bought the next bus ticket to Rovinj....It is not far from Pula, almost 40 minutes or so....
Pula is a town on the Istrian Peninsula....as most towns on the Peninsula, the accomodations might be expensive, with the supplements if we stay less than 2 or 3 nights....
For me, it's enough to be here for The Arena, this is a great sight....maybe doing a bit of shopping, having meals...Pula can offer this...
There's also a cobble-stoned street & I am a sucker for this !......Just walking around Pula makes me feel good....
Regards.

Congratulations, Arnaud :) Great page, bringing great memories of Pula at its best. It's a fantastic place one cannot miss during a visit to Croatia. Thanks for sharing!
Short stay, but you seem to be very impressed by the Arena. Yes, it is enough reason alone to visit Pula.
A nice page for a nice town. Congrats.
Love the arena's pic and the golden gate. well, not realy gold... hehehe
It is the bell tower of the Cathedral
I think Croatia will be getting more visitors next year if people get to read your travel pages!!
You've just made me want to visit Istria, and Pula especially. I love Roman architecture and your pics of the amphitheatre are a most nagging invitation! :-)
That Arena in Pula is such known sight. I always picture it when thinking on Pula. Well done Arnaud :)
