CROATIASaturday 28th June 2003Arriving on Rab Island by ferry from Jablanac (a pier on the mainland..) to Misnjak (a pier on Rab Island)...
On the car ferry, there were lots of holiday-makers with their campers & managed to get a couple to drop me off at Rab Town....They were heading to Kampor...
From Minsjak to Rab Town, it was quite a distance, lucky me somebody gave a lift...
Arrived in Rab Town, people were just started to get up...at about 8 am on Saturday, that was quite early...
All the tourist agencies/offices were not opened yet at this hour...Dragging my luggage to the pier & sat there, feeling tired & sleepy 'cos the previous night, I didn't have enough sleep..on the bus, at the gas station...Go to my Jablanac Page to read about my story...
Walking for a few more hours around Rab Town, dragging my luggage, getting oriented in the town...
Managed to find the bus station, the market place, the old town, some restaurants...very nice town indeed, I thought to myself...
About 9.30 am, the Tourist Office was opened...saw this woman holding a bunch of keys & she's looking at me probably thinking..." Oh oh, A Tourist...this early ! Darn..."...
It was KOMPAS Travel Agency...
Anyway, I let her tidying up her desk & approached her...My first question was "Hello, can you find me a room, for 2 nights stay...for about 100 Kn...? (that's about 13 Euros...)...
She said " Please wait & I will check..it's too early in the morning & people haven't got up yet..." & smiled at me...She was very sweet actually...
Then, she said..that a host would be coming to fetch me...
I was happy..& 5 minutes later an old guy came & I followed him to his 'private room'...
It was just about 5 minutes walk & I was in my room....Nice room, next to a bathroom..It was a double room but he said I could pay for a single occupancy...Great !....At 13 Euros a night for 2 nights..it was superb !....
He couldn't speak English so lots of hand signs...
Had a nap for about 1 hour & went out exploring Rab Town...
First, wandered around The Old Town, very nice..... more & more people started to arrive....
About 12 pm, took a bus to Suha Punta...a nice beach on Rab Island...One reason actually why I wanted to be on Rab Island was to be at Suha Punta....
At Suha Punta, had a good swim..really beautiful sceneries all around....& had my spaghetti at the FKK Restaurant...Very Nice !...
I was here at Suha Punta till about 6 pm & decided that I should go back to Rab Town....but there was no buses !....The buses to places around Rab Island are scarce maybe people have their own transports, camping-vans, bikes, rollerskates....& me, with only my legs ....
It's okay, thought to myself, I could walk back to Rab Town;...that would take me about 1 hour because I got lost into the woods !....When I was in the right path/road, it's a nice walk, seeing all the houses, there's an old church that I should check maybe the follwoing day,...people, old people, kids..looking at me, wondering to themselves where I am from...
...Nice feelings....
In the early evening in Rab Town, I had my ice-creams...BIG scoops !...8 Kn.
Headed back to the room, watched a bit TV....& at about 8 pm, went off to sleep....

MUST SEE...

One island that I managed to make a stop while in Croatia !
So beautiful with lots of sights to see & adore...
The accomodations were so easy to find & very much affordable !
There are many 'old sights' still intact with very well-preserved glory...
There are small forests & hilly hills for hikers to enjoy the green sceneries around this island !

Definitely worth walking or wander around The Old Town on Rab Island !
Being the adventurous tourist I was, seeing the biggest NUDISTS CAMPGROUND this side of the world was a very much enjoyable experience !
If this is not your thing, well...take the local buses & have a super trip around the island !
This island also has a vibrant nightlife ! Shops, restaurants, parks are within easy reach in the centre of Rab Town...
Definitely ONE of the islands that you should be on, in Croatia !

Cons:I managed To Stay 2 days Only, NOT ENOUGH !...
In a nutshell:Make This Island A MUST VISIT Next Time You're In Croatia !...

Rab looks like a nice place. You are indeed wearing all black. It was very hot this summer throughout Europe. It is worse at places where there's air condition is not common.

Croatia is full of beautiful places, you were lucky to get a lift back. my experience are not really good about Hitch-hiking.good page.
