RAB ISLAND<<<<<RIJEKA>>>>>VOLOSKO
CROATIAMonday 30th June 2003...Arriving in Rijeka on 30th June 2003, Monday...from Rab Island....about 4 or 5 pm....
It was a sunny day....& eager to meet with Ivan, whom will be waiting for me there....
Got off the bus, this old man was approaching me asked if I wanted somebody to carry my luggage...I said no....
Rijeka was busy with traffics...cars, buses....bikes.....& people !....& cranes.....I saw lots of them..big & small cranes....even a few kms before reaching the bus station....
Then,...the church as I captured as a photo above.....
Suddenly....a hand was put on my back..& it was Ivan !....Happy to meet up with him....with his cap...the same fisherman cap....Ha! ha! Ha!
Secured my luggage..& wandered with him.....walking with Ivan is an experience because I always felt that we were walking in circles.....
Ivan was telling me how great Rijeka was.....but I had a different opinions;....maybe Ivan love people....but I love buildings....I could see some 'historial' buildings but apart from that...Rijeka is a just so hussle & bussle with people...& it is also a big town in Croatia treated as a big door for people going down along the Dalmatian Coast or the Istria Peninsula....
Had our gelatos....& told my plans to Ivan.....but he had a nice place to show me....hhmmm, another surprise, I thought....
Will continue this story.....

MUST SEE...
Quite a beautiful place ! If only I stayed here much longer...
There are good sights that I could see, some statues maybe, some buildings...
A busy town definitely; A hub for trains, buses & ferries... for people coming in from Slovenia, Italy & Austria...even Germany.
Many people as well...in the month of June I was there.

Rijeka also has many shops, restaurants that you would always see in bigger cities & towns.
If you feel like going to the sea, it's possible to take the local buses...
Do remember, if you are in Rijeka, a day visit to Opatija & Volosko is a must !

It probably takes time to see the beauty in town of Rijeka. I just love its industrial / harbour landscape and all the skyscrapers.... Nice page :-) |
