CROATIATuesday 1st July 2003Arriving in Rovinj by bus from Pula...reaching there about 4 or 5 pm....
The bus station was a bit drab...nothing to see...just people waiting for their buses....Checked about some infos on Rovinj at this small travel agency. Actually, there were many travel agencies around Rovinj...just to show that people are coming here for holiday in the right season.
I was told at this place,...accomodation-wise, almost everything would be expensive! I have to stay like minimum 3 nights..if not the supplement would apply.....
In my head I said it loudly..."Welcome To Istria ! ".....I should have said it earlier when I was in Opatija....
Rovinj is really nice.....the yatchs were everywhere, docked at the pier, waiting....for some tourists like me to take photos of them...Lining up the harbour were restaurants...with the waiters inviting passers-by to sample their foods/dishes....
I had my Spaghetti in one of them...with Cola...& walked towards the Old Town...had a gelato with 2 toppings/scoops....& I could see the toppings are much bigger here....& I could hardly handle them when they started to drip....laughed to myself...thinking that I was behaving like a kid....
The Old Town is more nicer...beautiful cobble-stone paths...with Mediteranean-style old houses lined up the old streets...I am really a sucker for that !...then, shops....cheap & affordable....expensive & very nice...postcards; paintings....sea-shells....& everything nice in life are all dispayed here...I just looked....
Wandered around the town....gelatos everywhere !....people were also everywhere...mostly Germans I think....or Italians...or Austrians...
Walking...or rather climbing towards the Old Church....click! click!...(that's the sounds of my camera btw...)...
Decided to go up the tower..thought of the amazing views that i would have when I'm up there....
The steps were steep....& suddenly, the bell started to ring..I held tight the banister....& grudged to myself..."why Now !?.."...
The views were amazing allright....
Walked back to the Old Town....& enquired about some ferry excursions to nearby islands....many possibilities....thinking about it all...maybe on the 2nd day......
Will continue this story....
In the meantime, look at that photo above....I want to be able to look out from any of those windows....& named the street under my name.....Dream Arnaud, dream.....

Rovinj is an artists' dream.

You have to stay here at least 1 day or so to really see the nice sights around Rovinj.
The small harbour, the cobble-stoned streets, the Mediteranean old houses, the old church with a tower that you have to go up to see Rovinj from as high as you could !

This photo was taken from the top of St. Euphemia Cathedral, situated in the middle of Rovinj Peninsula.
There are lots of people sure but don't let that put you off 'cos Rovinj also a vibrant night life this side of Istria.
Rovinj is being tipped as the BEST destination in Istria.

Pros and Cons

Pros:One of the best 'medieval' destinations in the world !
Cons:Stupid Accomodations Regulations !

I felt the same way about Rovinj as you did! It was so majical getting lost in the tiny alleys. Such a beautiful place, lost in time.

Wow! I always heard about Dubrovnik, but never from Rovinj. Croatia is definately on my future trips now. Thanks for the pictures.

That's the most expensive Tent camping that I've ever heard of!! Rovinj does look very nice though!! Again you've got Fantastic photos and a great dialogue to bring us closer to the destination!!

lovely page and memories,,as for mine why I stayed on Katarina Island many years ago before hotel was expensive!
