A Good Hub To Explore Dalmatia & Inland Croatia...

View infront of the Youth Hostel in Zadar...
Thursday 26th June 2003
...First of all, I really didn't do Zadar a good justice..
Arriving there from Split. I didn't want to stay long in Split & at 4 pm from Split, took a bus to Zadar & arrived at about 8.30 pm. Called the Youth Hostel to get a bed there & checked-in right away.
Have to say here that the trip from Split to Zadar was a amazing experience ! Beautiful coastal sceneries, beautiful coves, beaches, sea & people lying on the beaches-nudists, houses, mountains & the HOT weather. All watched through from the bus window.
On the bus, I was sitting at the very back with some young Croatian guys who were listening to maybe Limp Bizkit on their headphones. I was listening to Moose ( a brilliant but not very famous British indie band).
The Zadar Youth Hostel was nice; 3 to 4 miles away from Zadar centre. On that day I arrived, there were probably 4 All-Gilrs Netball Teams !
They were singing, hollering some songs, maybe winning the matches, not to mention the body smells of the girls after a hard day's victory ! Eurghh !
I got a room with a young Scottish boy, whom I met on the local bus, to the Hostel. His mum & sister were put in another dormitory. Otherwise, we could have a picnic in the room !
I took shower & felt hungry. It's almost dark outside. Went out & had dinner at this nice restaurant.
The Hostel is just by the pier with yachts. Activities place...
Came back to my room & it was dark. Enquired about the trip to Plitvice Park the following day. Possibly I could go there with my luggage & then could continue to Rab Island.
The reception guy told me that it's not possible that way. Oh dear. I had to back track to Zadar to get the bus to Rab Island. Was also told that it wouldn't be an easy connection, there are 2 buses a day to Jablanac, then, had to wait another bus coming from Rijeka....Hhmm, I could smell the nice experience that would wait for me.
Anyway about 10 pm, entered a backpacker from Colorado. Had a chat & we turned off the light. The young Scottish boy was long in his tooth-fairy heaven by this time...
It was a hot night ! So hot I couldn't really describe. I just couldn't fall assleep !
The Colorado guy opened the window & minutes later, I started to feel itchy on my legs !Damn ! Mosquitoes !...
I was tossing & turning on my bed & quietly, closed the window...
...Again, that Colorado guy opened the window ! I thought he was so smelly that even the mosquitoes wouldn't want to come near him !
Anyway, managed to sleep although not a comfortable one...
The following day, had breakfast & left my luggage at the bus station & took the bus to Plitvice. That Colorado guy took off with 2 girls; he is a big mosquitoe after all.
Read my experince on my Plitvice Page.
Arrived back in Zadar in early evening, but it was already dark & thinking should I stay for the night at The Youth Hostel & let the mosquitoes having a feast on me, or catch the bus to Jablanac/Rab Island. Easy decision this as I was hunger for some travel experiences.
Chose to take the night bus bound for Rijeka & would stop me at Jablanac. Departed from Zadar at 11.30 pm...
Another experience awaited me; all on my Jablanac Page.
See, I didn't have the time to actually discover Zadar. Some nice sights I missed. Well, travelling....it's my decision, it's my timetables. I would miss a few things but a few more things await me. For sure.
Move forward I said to myself. I could come back here & let the mosquitoes have a feast on me again but not with that Colorado guy being in the same room with me !
Thank you.

I still don't get it why didn't you stop at Plitvice on your way to the coast from Zagreb? You had quite a strange itinerary, you know. That Zadar hostel experience doesn't sound good. Mosquitoes & Colorado guy.... Ups! No wonder you took the first bus...
