Laidback, Industrial-City...

by coceng - last update: Oct 21, 2004

BATH<<<<<BRISTOL>>>>>CHELTENHAM
ENGLAND
10th June 2004 (Thursday)
Now, why would I bother to make a stop in Bristol at all !? But I sure am glad that I did !
I just wanted to see the city where one of my favourite indie bands came from & they are called BROADCAST !
All the usual suspects of that ilk (the so-called 'trend-setter in music') were conceived in Bristol : Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, Nelle Hopper, Roni Size...
Who the **** are they ? I hear you ask...
My answer would be, "Where the **** have you been living all this time !?"
I kinda like Bristol...I mean there's no smoke-coming-out-from-the-chimneys to be seen here, maybe I didn't venture way way further, maybe...
The town has a laidback feel like some parts are just deserted with nobody to be seen ! I could just walking naked around the city & still nobody would take notice of that ! Ace...
Out from the train station, I started to snap away...
The St. Mary Redcliffe Church is so handsome !
The Floating Harbour is almost scenic bar the evil-smelling mud in the Avon River...
Then, I also saw the Castle Park, very nice with the St. Peter's Church ruins...
My guidebook guided me through the lanes & the streets around Bristol so all the photos that you guys can see on this page are derived from that walk that I did around Bristol ! For a few hours, I thought I saw a lot...
My guidebook told me that if I would to stay the night in Bristol, I might catch the best club scenes this side of England; I chose not to...
I wanted to see The Cotswolds ! I had 2 friends waiting for me in Cheltenham...
So, Bristol...I'll come back, don't worry okay.
St. Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol England...

ABOUT BRISTOL...
Bristol has a nice history...which of course I'm not going to detail on it.
It started as a port & through the years had developed a range of manufacturing industries.
Hence this would make a target for the heavy bombings during WW II !
The centre was devastated so most of the buildings somehow have been rebuilt & trying painstakingly to retain their splendour...
Now Bristol is a transport hub with many connections north to The Cotswolds & The Midlands; Southwest to Devon & Cornwall & east to Bath (certainly an easy day trip from here !)
South Wales is linked to Bristol across the Severn Bridge...
Nowadays, Bristol is trying to lure tourists with plenty of bars, clubs, cinemas & restaurants to fuel the buring of the midnight oil !
I came here because I had read so much about Bristol through the so-called trendsetters in music, bands like what I mentioned above (no need to repeat !).
Come here, either from Bath or from London with many buses & train connections in between them !
The 2 photo at the top were taken by me at St. Mary Redcliffe Church; The second photo is the entrance...;

This church is certainly one of the beautiful attractions that we could see in Bristol !

MUST SEE...
Must see around Bristol ? Well according to the short walk that I did when I was there, that's what I meant.
So, here are the photos & sights that I lay out according to these pages : [Please click on the pages]

PAGE 1 : Out from Temple Meads Train Station, I led my way to see St. Mary Redcliffe Church; Spent some times there to capture the corners that intrigued me !

PAGE 3 : On this page, I captured some pubs (lovely buildings !); My eyes caught The Castle Park where I came near to The Church of St. Peter; Oh, I also saw 2 ducks bathing themself on the bank of Avon River...

PAGE 4 : The last page of my photos around Bristol; Sights around The Castle Park & The Church of St. Peter; Slowly walking back to Temple Meads Station to continue my journey to THE COTSWOLDS ! [Please click]
