WINCHCOMBE<<<<<BROADWAY>>>>>CHIPPING CAMPDEN
THE COTSWOLDS
10th June 2004 (Thursday)
Wow ! It was just amazing ! Travelling from one place to another; Really is a mega bonus to be able to explore The Cotswold with 2 amazing friends, plus the mum ! Roger's mum...
From Winchcombe, after sipping our teas, Roger drove us to Broadway ! A place that I was most looking forward to see !
It was not really a village but rather a small town with people coming & going; Tourists place indeed !
This was added with nice inns, restaurants & cottage houses, some look new, other look 'being re-decorated'.
I had ample times to snap some pix...
Patrick quipped about The Lygon Arms [please click]; One of the expensive inns in England & a famous one too.
I was telling Roger & Patrick that after a while The Cotswold would look the same ! The same cottage houses, the same 'touristy' places...
WHAT we would see next was certainly one of its kind in the world ! We drove to The Broadway Tower !
A 'folly' tower or rather a leisure tower with no significant purpose but has been attracted people since 18th century !
1 mile south-east of Broadway village. Going by car, it would be slightly further, I think.
It was late when we arrived there. ust over 6 pm...
We thought that we would just see it from afar, but Roger (or was it Patrick ?) 'discovered' that we could actually climb over a fence to reach the tower ! Great, we felt like kids again...Not that I liked climbing fences when I was young; Not sure about Patrick & Roger though.
There was nobody around ! Great to me. The sun was still shining.
Snapped some photos, wandered around the tower.
Too bad that we couldn't go up the tower as it was pass the closing time but still, we achieved it by leaning against the tower's wall !
It looked new, well-kept.
Inside the tower, there would be exhibitions as well.
Famous writers (i.e William Morris) stayed in this tower to get some inspirations.
MY BROADWAY TOWER PHOTOS...
Slowly, we had to leave the tower. I bidded farewell secretly in my heart ! Feeling good, feeling that I was so lucky to be at the tower, thanks to these 2 great guys that I was in touch with on the Net !
Otherwise, I would have to hike, walk, climb the fence on my own (maybe get caught !) to bring these memories to ya all...

MUST SEE...

Broadway lies just over the border in Worcestershire.
It is much visited for the unchanged sights from the last few hundred years !
Nevertheless, Broadway is also a touristy place where expensive inns, cottage houses with its old charms, still manage to lure people to come & spend some leisure times in here.
My photo on the right is showing THE LYGON ARMS
[Please click], which is one of the famous inns in UK !
Broadway History...
After the Norman conquest, a market town was set up in Broadway.
The main, broad street running through Broadway was the ancient 'ridgeway' from Worcester to London. Hence the name 'BROAD - WAY'.
Before railway tracks, this was the route that all coaches would pass through or stopping by; When people relied much on railway lines, Broadway was left as it was & still retain the 'broad-way' status by its name...

Broadway Tower looks interesting. Excellent photos, you can be proud of them. It's probably more photogenic from the outside anyway.

Great pics! I had dinner at Goblet's in the Lygon Arms, and I got up to Broadway Tower, too--but I walked up the hill from town! :) Nice page...
