The first college was built in the 13th century & one of them was called 'university'.
Today, there are 39 colleges spreading over Oxford.
Snapped the 2nd photo ! Climbing up the winding steps to the top of St. Mary's Church; The middle tower (in the distance) is Exeter College Chapel.

Right ! I wanted to go up The St. Mary Church for some scenic views over Oxford but I took more photos around the area first.
This photo is showing the oldest part of The Bodleian Library, The Old School Quadrangle.
The Tower of Five Orders is so names because it is ornamented with columns of each of the five orders of classical architecture - Doric, Tuscan, Ionic, Corinthian and Composite - in ascending order.

Now, as this photo was taken, I was climbed up the winding steps to the top of St. Mary's Church !
Photo is showing All Souls College, which is to the right of the church...
Founded in 1438.
Being tipped as the oddest of the colleges in Oxford because basically in order to get in, you must be a genius with perfect table manners !

The first college was built in the 13th century & one of them was called 'university'.
Today, there are 39 colleges spreading over Oxford.
This is a close-up of the Brasenose College door !
The name of this college was taken from its snout-like door knocker that was stolen in 1334 by students from Stamford College !
It was returned only in 1890 when the college had to buy the whole of Stamford College just to get back the door knocker !
It is now hang in the dining hall.

The Old City Of Oxford... Oxford University & Colleges Review

Oxford was a Saxon town at a point where River Cherwell meets The Thames.
The first college was built in the 13th century & one of them was called 'university'.
Today, there are 39 colleges spreading over Oxford.
This next photo was taken also along Broad Street;
The Indian Institute...
The architectures are amazing but we wouldn't know them by their ages ! Some buildings are only old by the sites that they are built upon whereas the buildings themselves have been renovated many times...

I didn't exactly go in to see the books inside the library, just being in the 'square' inside the bodleian Library; CHILDREN UNDER 14 ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER THE LIBRARY...
My photo is showing the bronze statue of William Herbert, 3rd Earl of Pembroke...

Today, there are 39 colleges spreading over Oxford.
My photo is showing one small entrance to The Bodleian Library, also in the same area as St. Mary's Church, Radcliffe Camera & All Souls College.
This is NOT the main entrance.
The Bodleian Library, known to Oxford scholars as 'The Bod', opened in 1602 with a collection of 2000 books, assembled by Thomas Bodley.
Today, the Bodleian includes several off-site storage areas as well as nine other libraries in Oxford :

The Bodleian Japanese Library
The Bodleian Law Library
The Hooke Library
The Indian Institute Library
The Oriental Institute Library
The Philosophy Library
The Radcliffe Science Library
The Bodleian Library of Commonwealth and African Studies at Rhodes House
The Vere Harmsworth Library
The sites now contain 9 million items on 176 km of shelving, and have seats for 2,500 readers.

Oxford students must swear not to borrow or set fire to any books when they join 'The Bod'.

The church is St. Mary The Virgin.
It is a good sight with a handsome tower...
It is told that no visit to Oxford is worth if not climbing the 127 steps to the tower gallery for an uninterupted views across the whole of the city !
