Hitch-Hiking...

I am compelled to put this as a mean of travelling around Slovenia.

Hitch-hiking.
I had one good experience from Smlednik to Ljubljana & I saw many young people especially, do so when I was in & around Slovenia.
How safe it could be ? Very safe, I was assured of that from the driver who gave me a lift !
It's better to travel in pair, but I was on my own anyway.
I guess the usual precautions take into effect here. Don't go in if you are uncomfortable with the drivers.

Rent A Car...

It's always the best way if you can have your own transport while travelling. If you have a guide driving you around is 10 times better !
Get a good road map & start planning your itineraries around Slovenia.
Make sure you know the road rules, the do's & don't while travelling/driving in Slovenia.

The best scale is of 1:250,000
1 inch equals 3.95 Miles
and 1 inch equals 6.41 km.

A map at a scale of 1:250,000 scale would serve as a good road map with major roads and some secondary roads.

Slovenian Railways...

Travelling by trains is a way to get around Slovenia. Not all places have train stations by the way so please check the times-tables & train stations before making any departures.
The Slovenian Railway Networks link its trains with European Railway Networks. This would pass through Austria, Germany, Italy, Hungary, & Croatia.
