JUNE 2003
....Yes...go there!
Not many people know about Slovenia....this is true...not to people this far anyway....
I first knew about Slovenia from that guidebook with a photo of Bled on it, loved at first sight, as people may understand.
Slovenia is a small country..but not that small...because so many things are just so amazing in this country. My first place was Koper....housing areas, a big supermarket....then, the sea....Whoargh!...the sea! That would carry me off the ground for this 3rd trip (which also covers Italy & Croatia...) at least....
Piran....God! Was I not in the Waikiki Beach or Bondi Beach?..& I have never been to these beaches!..amazing...
Walking from there,..Portoroz ! My type of medieval town.....
Strunjan....Ivan, you made me forgot my camera.....
Many nice things I saw in Slovenia..yes, I want to live in this 'small' country....
No..no...don't like Ljubljiana...maybe nobody was showing me around...maybe...
Bled, yes......I want to get married to somebody there & built our tilted house on Vintgar Gorge !....Postojna & Predjama...human fish & a nice castle....the human fish don't have eyes...go figure !...& the castle clings to a cliff !....
...then...last but certainly not least....Ilirska Bistrica.....;
I was warned that Slovenia was all green....the buses were scarce....actually, there were hardly anybody on the buses (nice buses btw...), maybe tourists..because everybody in Slovenia love hitch-hiking ! Is this true?....Well, that's what I did, follow the locals as they say...because there was no buses to get me to a place....;it was nice getting to know people, I mean the driver that way (he's been to Malaysia..).....not dangerous because in Slovenia, people are just oh-so-friendly.....& they speak English very very well....
I hope next year...2004, when Slovenia will be submitted into EU, people would be welcomed to this amazingly beautful country because even when I was there, people were so receptive to a good humble traveller like me....
Okay....guess where that photo above was taken?...no, not in Bled....

SUMMARY...
Thursday 19th June 2003. Entered Slovenia from Trieste, Italy. My 3rd trip which also includes Italy & Croatia.
Ivan, my Slovene host was with me for the first 2 days.
On the first day, we went to Koper, Piran, Portoroz & Strunjan.
He took me back to his place in Ilirska Bistrica. Stayed the night there. An eerie night, I should say.
The following day, Ivan drove me to Predjama Castle & Postojna. Took a bus to Ljubljana from Postojna. Couldn't get a room to sleep in Ljubljana. Took a bus to a camping ground in Smlednik. Stayed the night there, under the Slovene moon.
The following day, had to hitch-hike to get back to Ljubljana. A good experience.
Not wasting any time, took a bus to Bled. Amazing place ! Stayed for 2 nights at the Youth Hostel in Bled. One of the most beautiful Youth Hostels in Europe !
Had an excursion to Lake Bohinj & Vintgar George. Very nice places.
On Monday 23rd June 2003, took a bus back to Ljubljana to take the train to Zagreb, Croatia.
