I passed Skaftafell area twice, first on 19th June on my way to stopped in Hofn. The bus on that day just stopping for a few minutes infront of the Skaftafell Centre...
The 2nd time was my ultimate experience in this beautiful national park, situated in the south of Iceland.
This is my story...
Reaching Skaftafell National Park at 2 pm, from Reykjavik (bus departed at 8 am).
'Wasting' half a day of heavy rain & strong wind, for the journey from Reykjavik to Vik...
Thank God ! Arriving in Skaftafell, the rain stopped & the strong wind re-route to another area, maybe.
Checked-in at Skaftafell Centre as I had to spend the night there.
In a tent; Siggi's tent...
Left my luggage at the centre & started my exploration right away !
Walking to the direction of Svartifoss waterfall, which is to the right of Skaftafell Centre.
Climbing, easy walking trails.
Passing through some waterfalls, took photos.
There's no tall trees in Iceland. A joke :
What do you do if you get lost in Iceland ?
Answer : You just stand up !
Well... for me, even if I stand up, I would be swallowed by the bushes anyway...
Reaching a mountain top, bumping into some tourists...
45 minutes later, down there flowing between 2 cliffs, was Svartifoss Waterfall !
Descending down the cliff, ...I wanted to be as near to the waterfall as possible !
No tourist around which was just fab !
The waterfall is so amazing...so handsome, flowing over basalt columns, into tiny stream below.
Gawking at the basalt columns, being the backdrop of this waterfall.
It looked just like hundreds of photos that I'd seen...
I made sure that I captured enough photos, on my digital camera, on my cheap camera...I felt darn good !
I felt darn great !
I felt like I was holding Iceland in the grip of my hand ! Yep ! That good...
The afternoon weather was just ace...Slightly wet from the heavy rain in the morning, maybe.
I just had to explore more...
Skaftafell National Park is a vast area but I chose not to escape too much in the wilderness.
I had to set up my own time, my own pace...All depending on the strength of my walking legs.
Climbing the other side of the cliff; walking to the top...

Skaftafell National Park is a beautiful place ! So many hiking trails to choose from to suit your walking strength...
