The Most Beautiful Medieval Town in Italy...

by coceng - last update: Feb 16, 2005

BOMARZO<<<<<CIVITA DE BAGNOREGIO>>>>>FLORENCE
ITALY
Thursday 12th June 2003
Reaching here, a town called Bagnoregio by bus from Bomarzo.Arrived here late in the evening. Missed my bus to Orvieto. Asked some old men about a place to sleep, they pointed me to some young boys instead.
Young boys came & those old men was shocked as these young Italian boys could speak better (very good) English than them. They took me to a place called Pucci Romantica. Eh ?
Excellent host, Madam Pucci. If you want elegant with a touch of class, you better come to the Madam ! She's all that plus much more I should say. She looked like a lady with a crystal ball, minus the turban.
Showed me my room; GOD ! I had never stayed in a room with so much campiness in it ! It looked like a doll's room.
Madam Pucci drove me to Civita de Bagnoregio. The reason I was there in Bagnoregio.
Civita sits on top of a dying hill. The hill is crumbling down but it is stable now. Thanks to some rich architects I think, so somebody told me.
Walked on the pedestrian bridge, thank god it's not a suspension bridge. The sceneries all around are just so amazing & looking from afar, Civita the town on a hilltop looks so inviting.
Reached there. Nobody's around except some American kids playing basketball. What else ? These kids live here I understand. Maybe the rich architects' sons.
It was so great, so good that I was the only tourist up there. I was thinking about so many things. maybe I could ask the permission to live here & create my own night life on here.
Took lots of photos ! I wanted to capture every nooks & corners. I named them all, in my head.
This town hasn't changed maybe for the last 500 years. It is amazing thinking that all the medieval towns that I saw on TV are all come down to Civita de Bagnoregio. Minus the heroes & villains. The heroines will serve me dinner no problem.
Too bad that I had to go. Back to the real world. Life's not fair just when I started to think about my own private meals.
Anyway, walked back to Bagnoregio. Greeted by madam Pucci again. She's been to Malaysia she told me so I was really happy in her comfort.
My doll room looked so inviting. High bed, with doll cupboard, doll windows etc. The bathroom, do I need to describe ? Total grandeur. I felt like the Queen's mother when I'm in there.
Then, the dinner or should I say the meal. Oh Madam, you are the real lady with a crystal ball ! You knew me from top to bottom. Your spaghetti bolognese was the best I had. I was pampered. I really was. I was spoilt. Only 0.00000% of me thinking about the bill that I had to pay the following day.
Slept tight that night after a tiring day : Rome, Viterbo, Bomarzo. The sun was cruel.
The following day, beakfast. Prince Charles will give up Buckingham Palace for this. Home made jams, juices all gobbled up by me, politely of course. I cried thinking of all the people that haven't discovered this place. Their lost.
Madam Pucci took her time to show me all her doll rooms, all with names. All with the touch of exquisite elegant. I never use these 2 words together.
Walked around Bagnoregio, for a few hours. Packed my stuffs & paid the bill. It was the most satisfying luxurious, elegant, comfortness bill that I had in all my trips combined. It was still cheaper than my 3 star-room (male doll room) in Rome.
Do come here if you read this ! Let Madam Pucci touch your heart & soul for the elegant that she & her husband could offer in this most beautiful town in rural Italy. Taste her foods & you would want to tell everybody about it. you would want to stay longer, you would want to have her as your neighbour.
Go up Civita de Bagnoregio & don't come down. But if you do, Madam Pucci excellent dinner will be waiting for you !
My next destination was Orvieto by bus; Sadly nobody could help me to take care my luggage in Orvieto, so that I could go up the town...
So, I took the next train to Florence...on the same day.

A MUST SEE...
