A Place for All Romeos & Juliets...Old & Young !

COMO<<<<<VERONA>>>>>TRIESTE
ITALY
Wednesday 18th June 2003
...Arriving here from Milan by train.
The train station was nice...saw this poster bearing the concert in August by Diana Krall....but I thought Verona was supposed to be medieval....
Secured my luggage...& got on the town bus to the action of things....Got off near the Roman Amphitheater ! It was an amazing sight.....Could see some posters & banners hanging almost everywhere, probably some good concert they were having the night before inside the Amphitheater.....thinking that Diana Krall would feel very privileged indeed to have a piano for her to play in this nice place !...
Decided not to see the interior of the Amphitheater....& instead walked towards the the Old Town....
Shops....& people....with cobble-stoned streets...so, unlike the scenarios portrayed to me from the train station....
People eating ice-creams everywhere...I should try that, so I did !...
Many nice medieval buildings allright....& then drizzling rains pouring down.....
It was a nice feeling....people took covers....the cobble-stoned street were wet.....Watching people go by in Verona is nice because people here were trendy....so beautiful people were everywhere....
Even the dogs were trendy....I remember seeing this woman scooped her dog's 'do' with her own hand & put it in a plastic bag & then put the plastic bag in her Armani bag !! Like Wow !....
I think if she didn't scoop the 'do', she could be fined or something.....she loved her dog more than her Armani bag !....
Wandered around.....it's good to walk in drizzling rain sometimes....& had a late lunch at this place...Spaghetti Bolognese with Cola...the waiter sort of saying something about me having late lunch...I guess it was about 4 pm..so, the restaurant was not supposed to cook anything at that hour ......
Anyway...it was a good meal, so nice.....& this boy was making face at me....I put out my tongue & showed him my big tongue-stud ...hhmm, that should turn his face away.....
Opening my guidebook....Wait a minute, why didn't I thought about that place !?.....
...Juliet's Balcony.....
Searched for it & found it...so many people paying their dues to that balcony.....So the story was saying that it's a fictional balcony.....
.....Who cares....the walls were full of love grafittis, with marker pens, various colours....people taking photos....
...Then, the balcony....a girl was standing there.....people taking photos....then, another girl took her turn, people also took photos.....Then, I realised those 2 girls were just tourists like me, who posed for their husband or boyfriend....
Then, a man came out on the balcony....nobody was taking any photo....maybe he was ugly....
Oh, there was also a female statue just below the balcony....maybe Juliet would look like this.....& wondered to myself how her Romeo would look like.....probably like the man who stood on the balcony just now....smiled to myself....
Walking.....saw this nice castle by the river.....went there....except it's not a castle, maybe an entrance to a fort which no more there....
Slowly walked back to the train station....& bought the train ticket to Trieste.....
Okay...the photo above is the castle entrance that I was talking about.....it looked nice.....Wonder what it's called...?
Thank You.

A MUST SEE...

When you arrive at the train station, please go to the Old Town right away or you would be thinking there's nothing to see in Verona...
Take a bus if not walking, quite a fair walking to reach The Old Town anyway...
You would definitely see the Amphitheater, you wouldn't miss it, it's so big & sometimes with decorations by the side of it maybe of some concert being held the previous night...
Go in if you want or you could also walk/encircle it.
Then slowly, walk to the stretch of street where you could see many shops (with designer labels...), restaurants, cafes...lying side by side...
A whole lot of things you could do in Verona if you take the time nicely...or manage your times appropriately.
Romeo...Romeo...blah ! blah ! blah !
Oh, Don't ever forget to see the Juliet's Balcony in Verona...
You don't have to like Romeo & Juliet to know there's a balcony where Juliet whispering " Oh, Romeo...Romeo...".
Well, nobody really knows if this actual balcony was the real balcony depicting in the story anyway but this is what Verona is known for !
There's even a statue of Juliet just below the balcony...
