JUNE, JULY 2003...

Croatia......I like the name....but in Croatia, people call this country as Hrvatska.....
A few years back....maybe earlier, I saw pictures of Croatia on TV....the ethnics' clashes, peoples' sufferings, the damaged buildings,....a war-torn country.....little that I knew I would be in this country.....discovered so many things to pamper me.....
Before I left for my journey, people back home asked me..."Why Croatia?...Is it safe there now !?...." I replied back sternly, "Of Course it's safe! .....Otherwise, I wouldn't go there, would I !?..."....
I was just a few hours in Zagreb...enough to just being there, maybe I didn't have anybody to really tell me about the city, showing me around...nevertheless I took some photos....& on that same day, caught the night bus to Dubrovnik !
.....with a flirty girl sleeping on my lap !....
The Dalmatian Coast !......if we ever running out of words or expletives.. to describe things in life....then, whatever we experience could be along the Dalmatian Coast .....this rings very loudly to me....On the buses, looking out from the window...with Moose (the music band...) playing out loud on my walkman.....
Too bad that time was running so fast for me...running out of money even.....but I did visit some of the best from Dalmatian Coast...
Dubrovnik.....being there is just s'wonderful !....Split.....Zadar....Rab Island....Rijeka......; it's not just about these places but the journey from one place to another creates a new world in my head !....
Then,...the Istria Peninsula...Rovinj...Pula...Porec.... most probably the centre of the 'Old-World' was here....

3rd : VENICE, ITALY... ( from Rovinj/Porec...).

Plitvice National Park

SUMMARY...

Monday 23rd June 2003. Entered Croatia from Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Zagreb is worth a few hours only. Judging from the photos that I took, I covered many sights within these few hours.
Night bus to Dubrovnik. I love this place. 2 nights stay. Move to Split by bus. On the same day to Zadar.
Slept at Youth Hostel.
The following day, rushed to Plitvice National Park by bus. Very hard to get a bus back to Zadar. I had to go back to Zadar 'cos I left my luggage at the bus station there.
On that night, took a bus to Jablanac. Little did I know, the bus would rop me at a juntion to Jablanac at 2 in the morning !
Walked down to the small harbour, amazing views btw. Ferry to Rab Island.
Stayed 2 nights in Rab. Bus to Rijeka. Ivan waited for me there. On the same day, went to Volosko & Opatija. Stayed at a camping ground near Volosko.
The follwoing day, took a bus to Pula. Stayed for a few hours. Moved to Rovinj on the same day by bus. Stayed one night at a camping ground. Had a good excursion to some small islands around Rovinj & Porec. One night, I slept on a bench near the bus station. An experience.
Took the Prince of Venice Ferryboat to Venice in Italy. It's amazing seeing Venice from the sea. Then to Rome & flew home to Kuala Lumpur.

Pros and Cons

Pros:The Sea, The Islands, The History...
Cons:Stupid Accomodation Regulations !
In a nutshell:One Of The Best Secluded Holiday Destinations !

My wife and I just returned from Dubrovnik (October 15, 2003). Absolutely a wonderful trip. Best time to go: September. Some restaurants close at the end of October. You need an airconditioned place to stay during peak summer.
