  • This was my first impression of Paris ! Taken just outside Gare Du Nord Train Station after arriving from London.
Feeling good being in Paris I should say.
I was taking the cigarette break more like while watching 2 taxis trying to persuade 1 passenger to get into their taxi ! Yes ! The profanity was heard by me also...

  • This photo was taken while we were searching for our hotel in the Montmartre area in Paris !
Not easy to find the street, we were back & forth many times.
Actually I was really looking for Moulin Rouge instead, which you can see later in my tips together with Sacre Coeur.

  • This is Paris landmark, known all over the world ! The architect was Gustav Eiffel...
Alexandre Gustave Eiffel was born in Dijon France in 1832. He graduated from the Ecole Centrale des Arts et Manufactures, Paris in 1855 and joined a Belgian firm which specialized in railway equipment. He established an independent practice in 1864 after which he established a career as an engineer-contractor.
Eiffel was a master of elegantly constructed wrought-iron lattices, which formed the basis of his bridge constructions and led to his project for the Eiffel Tower. He was mainly recognized as an engineer and bridge builder.
Eiffel died in Paris in 1923.
Now I shall start the photos of what I saw around Paris...All the photos taken on here were from my 2nd day because on the first day, I had the excursions to Vernon & Giverny....

  • Me & Patrick went to see Alain & Adele which would be waiting for us near Eiffel Tower...We were early, waited for them for a while.
When they came, I told them that I would be taking some photos around Eiffel Tower with Patrick & it was their turn to wait for us !
The photo was taken near the lower level of the tower....Very beautiful designs !

  • So, here's the feet or the base of the tower !
The bold and unusual design caused considerable controversy. Many Frenchmen were vocal in their disapproval, including the famous: Charles Garnier, architect of the Opera; Gounod, composer; and writers Francois Coppee, Leconte de Lisle, Dumas the Younger, Maupassant. Others, Apollinaire, Cocteau, Pissarro, Dufy, Utrillo, Seurat, Marquet were strongly in favor.

  • Another photo by me of the bease of the tower...this one on the right side.
Nevertheless, It was nearly torn down in 1909, but it's use for French radio telegraphy saved it. In 1916 it became the terminal for the first radio telephone service across the Atlantic. A meteorological station, radio communications station (1918), television transmission antenna (1957) and a suite of rooms used by Eiffel are located near the top.

  • This is the area behind Eiffel Tower (if the main road is the front of the tower...); Trees line up on the left & right.
Somehow this area is less crowded even during the day ! It's shady & quite good looking to my eyes...

  • When me & Patrick came back to Alain & Adele, we decided that the best way to see 'more' of Paris within a short period of time would be taking the boat tour !
I agreed on it because the boat tour would take us to see some world famous attractions along Seine River...
To reach the pier where we could take the boat tour, we walked across Pont d'Iena where I snapped this statue as in the photo...

  • Another view of Pont d'Iena...
Napoleon I ordered the construction of the Iéna bridge to commemorate his 1806 victory there against the Prussians . It was built between 1808 and 1814, but narrowly escaped being blown up in 1815 when his Empire collapsed. The bridge was enlarged in 1937 because of the increase in traffic and the demands of the Universal Exposition of that year.

Oscar Wilde & Guy de Maupassant were 2 writers who HATED the tower! Both essentially said they'd climb because that was the only way not to see it - LOL! But I think la Tour Eiffel is tres jolie. :)
