My Last Photo...

This would be my last photo in Vernon.
After taking the photo of The City Hall, we slowly walked back to the direction of the train station.
Asking for a direction from a lady who led us to the right road hence passing this leafy road...

The City Hall...

This is a statue in front of The City Hall in Vernon.
This City Hall is just the opposite of The Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame.
It was built at the end of the 19th century on a newly created square.
The builder raise the bell tower higher than the church, because of the rivalry between religious and civil power at this time...

The Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame...

The Collegiate Church of Notre Dame dates back to the Roman period (end of 11th Century) but its construction continued from the Gothic period to end in the 17th Century.
Now the photo is showing The West Façade, which is more decorative & very beautiful !
It boasts a rose window in high gothic style.
In 1658 the pavement was raised about two feet to keep it out of reach of the swelling of the river Seine. Two engravings on the wall of the church commemorate these floods.

Closer look on the church by me...
The church was dedicated in 1072 to 'The Holy Mother of God'.

The Ancient Vernon...

Vernon is an ancient town ! It is situated about 70 km from Paris & being regarded as the gateway to Normandy region & located in the lower Seine Valley.
The photo is showing another Maison du temps jadis & it is one of the oldest houses in Vernon.
This corbelled construction dates back to 15th century. It has beautiful half-timbered façades and a carved corner post on the theme of the Annunciation. It was once an inn, but now houses the Tourist Information Office.

Around Vernon, we could see many 'Houses of The Past Times' or known as Maison du temps jadis.
All of them are well-kept.

Vernon is an ancient town ! It is situated about 70 km from Paris & being regarded as the gateway to Normandy region & located in the lower Seine Valley.
The rest of the photos were taken by me after we came back from Giverny.
Most people would reach Vernon on their way to Giverny but overlooked this nice town instead.
Vernon train station is on the Paris / Rouen / Le Havre line and gives access to Paris (Saint-Lazare station) in just 45 minutes.
The building on the left of the photo is The Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame.
