MALAYSIA I live in Kuala Lumpur, not exactly in the city centre but a few miles away in another district called Petaling Jaya, right in the middle of a housing area called Bandar Utama. Housing areas aplenty here, with a big shopping complex JUSCO - Japanese owned, a private TV station...eating places, small shopping complex, IKEA - the Swedes have made their base here too...& the newly opened TESCO HYPER MARKET - British is always trying to chip in as well... So, I work in TESCO but the British don't pay for my salary; a Chinese man does... I work in the music section in TESCO & listen to music all day long, talking music all day long...wearing a tie to work with a nice georgous TESCO working pass. Enough about me. Kuala Lumpur is the city ! As many people regard this booming city in this part of the world. What do I like about KL (pronounced Kay-el) ? The shopping complexes? The high rise buildings? The Hard Rock Cafe? The Formula One Stadium ? (although it's in Sepang, a bit further from KL but okay...it's in KL..). No, no & no ..... KL to me means 'Why I am proud to be a Malaysian'... I feel safe here maybe not to everybody. Looking at the city, The Petronas Twin Tower, The KL Tower, The Transit Rail System, many more...all gearing up to be one of the most up-to-date cities in the whole world ! Period. I don't commune to KL much, maybe once a month, maybe,....because I am 'My Room is my World' type. I am the fun-type but I am not fun to be with..Ah-ha ! Enough about me (again). If I do go down to KL, it is because I want to collect my flight ticket for my next holidays; another reason was to meet 'dragontml' ; another reason is maybe to greet & show some of my visitors around KL. My favourite place is Batu Caves. My best memory was spending the night inside the cave, with 2 French friends who wanted to see people pierce their bodies from as near as possible ! Yep ! It was on Thaipusam night...being with about 10,000 Indians with very heavy smell of incense made me nodding my head & saying "This is Malaysia !".
UPDATES : 6th NOVEMBER 2003... Thanks guys & girls for liking my KL page. Some of you asked me to put real photos instead of those arty-farty art pix ! So, check my tips 'cos I put real photos, taken by me ! ALL the photos have date imprints on them; no, not because I want to tell you guys that I just bought a digital camera & playing with it...BUT I don't want my photos to be taken & used on other sites ! You hear me ! ENJOY & GET TO KNOW MALAYSIA THROUGH MY OWN EYES... Kuala Lumpur is the largest city in Malaysia and the economic capital of the country. Among Malaysians, Kuala Lumpur is always abbreviated to KL. The administrative capital of Malaysia is now Putrajaya.
Kuala Lumpur is situated in the state of Selangor, on the west coast roughly halfway up in West Malaysia (also known as Peninsula Malaysia). |
A MUST SEE... The amazing Petronas Twin Towers (as of 2003) is the tallest building in the world. It is situated in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The towers themselves are entirely devoted to office space. Petronas is Malaysia's national oil company. Below the twin towers is a popular shopping complex, called KLCC. There is also an classical orchestra based in the complex, Dewan Philharmonik.
|
Another landmark of Kuala Lumour is the KL Tower. It is situated on a hill called Bukit Nenas. 'Nenas' is pineapple in Malay language. Ironically, the shape of the top of this tower resembles a pineapple ! |
