Trams...

Trams are the most convenience way to get around Berlin. Apart from walking according to me. I love both actually.
I like the diea of hop in hop off, walking around the areas & get to know people & places.
The photo was taken by me on a night tram, on my way back from ....errr, a sex party, maybe, couldn't remember now. Looking around me, slightly drunk, nobody's around.
Managed to get off as I planned where to get off & walking, head heavy to my room.
Thank God I didn't get raped ! Berlin didn't show its ugly face to me. I found them actually !

The Train...

For me at least, trains are the most convenience way to arrive & to depart from Berlin. Definitely, by air, by car, bike etc are also very much possible as I say this based on my experiences.
I arrived in Berlin from a small town called Legnica in Poland. Departed to Prague, Czech Republic from Berlin.
I should say there that DB (Deutsche Bahn) operates several types of trains :

InterRegio - IR

Regional Express - RE
StadtExpress - SE
Stadtbahn - S - Bahn
Now, you can choose the trains wisely, to go in & out, around Germany, around Berlin from these listed trains.
