The Deutsche Dom in Mitte, Berlin
Gendarmenmarkt is one of the most beautiful squares in Europe – a must for every tourist. Here the Deutscher Dom (German Cathedral), the Französischer Dom (French Cathedral) and the Konzerthaus create a beautiful architectural ensemble.
The photo shows The Deutsche Dom at the south-side of the Gendarmenmarkt.
Directions: Gendarmenmarkt, in the Mitte area.
Happening in Altes Museum in Berlin
This photo was taken by me inside the Altes Museum.
You can see the paintings adorning the wall, some old ladies pondering at the wall (paintings, of course), an old lady deep in her listening to the audioguide (I don't think she's deaf)...& two people kissing, passionately !
What a sight !
Of course you don't always manage to capture such scenes but everywhere you go, do make a habit of snapping photos without the people noticing you doing that !
Address: Bodestra?e, Berlin-Mitte
Directions: U-Bahn: Friedrichstrasse; on Museumsinsel.
Altes Museum in Berlin
Also known as Altes Museum.
In here you could find some masterpieces of sculptures & paintings by Christian Daniel Rauch, Renoir, Monet, Manet, Cezanne & Constable.
If you love paintings or mainly just seeing some fine examples of beautiful paintings from the well-known painters, do come here.
You'll amazed at the collections displayed.
Directions: Still in Museumsinsel, at Bodestrasse 1-3.
One example of artifact in Pergamon Museum...
If you have a time for ONLY one museum in Berlin, make it to Pergamon Museum.
In here, you can find a feast of Classical Greek, Babylonian, Roman, Islamic & Middle Eastern Art & Architectures.
This is one of the best museums that I have been to !
Every room has photocopied articles of what you could see...in English, French & German.
Visitors would normally snap the English texts once they see them.
Each sheet is to pay for actually but by the so-called 'honour system'. Understand ? Place the money in the box as you exit. Err, I didn't...
Directions: Museumsinsel in Berlin.
Pergamon Altar in Berlin
Pergamon Museum is under the roof of an edifice that took 20 years to built, completed in 1930.
Audioguides with 4 hours of tape commentary are available for hire at 10 Euros.
The first major exhibit that you'll see as you enter is one of the most spectacular, also what gives the museum its name :
Directions: Inside Pergamon Museum.
Babylon Wall in Berlin
The photo shows one of the most commanding sights in Pergamon Museum, taken by me.
It is part of the walls from The Kingdom of Babylon !
We can take photos in the Pergamon Museum but no flash. I took as many as I could because everything that I saw around me are traces of the world history from the medieval to the present day.
Amazing place that you MUST SEE in Berlin.
Directions: In the Musemsinsel.
Museumsinsel in Berlin
These 5 World Class Museums situated in Colln, on the little Spree Island. Its northern tip is known as 'Museumsinsel' or Museum Island for this cluster of World Class Museums located here.
The 5 Museums you can see on the map, on the left.
Pergamon Museum is the best among them.
Directions: On the Spree Island called Colln, at the northern tip.
Berlin Sculpture
Another mighty fine of architecture in Berlin. It looks like 2 shackles inter-locked between one another.
This is the so-called Berlin Sculpture.
It symbolizes the close ties between East and West, commemorate the city's 750th anniversary in 1987, situated in the middle of Tauentzienstrasse.
Address: Kurfurstendamm, B-Charlottenburg/ Wilmersdorf
Directions: In the middle of Tauentzienstrasse.
Fernsehturm in Berlin
On the photo that I took on the left, you could see the Berlin Tower amidst the mist.
Known as 'Fernsehturm' in Berlin.
The TV Tower stands near Alexanderplatz. It was completed in 1969 and stands 365 metres high.
It was intended as a symbol of the permanence of East Berlin and the German Democratic Republic.
Directions: Near Alexanderplatz...
A mascot for 700 years in Berlin
Bear is a mascot for Berlin.
It has been the mascot of the city for well over 700 years !
Berlin, like those other cities has engaged in a public art project featuring sculptural reproductions of an animal mascot--in this case bears--which are painted by various artists and set out on sidewalks and plazas throughout the city center.
They liven things up, and are generally adored by kids and adults alike...
Some say that the city's name comes from the German word 'Barlein', meaning Little Bear !
Directions: Scattered all over the city of Berlin...
