LEGNICA<<<<<BERLIN>>>>>PRAGUE
Saturday 25th May 2002Berlin ! God put me here after taking a morning train from Legnica, Poland. Saturday morning. Zoo Station : Schoneberg. How ? Walking. While walking, felt the vibe of Berlin. Dragging my luggage all the way to my zimmer, greeted by a dog ! A bittch. "Luisa !", called Dick (the host). Dick convinced me that Luisa was a nice dog. Unpacked & rested. Dick showed some good spots around Berlin. Read them all in my head ! Went out. Rain. Rain Rain Go Away, Come Again Another Day : Not while I am in Berlin ! It rained everyday (4 days) while I was in Berlin. Drizzling rain, heavy rains; God was crying maybe for all the sins I had committed in my life (or maybe in Berlin !). Not sure. First night, Dick had a party. No, not for me but the Eurovision Song Contest was on. I decided to watch. I baffled them all for not going out on a Saturday night, in Berlin ! "Vhere're you from ?" they asked. Sheepishly answered "Malaysia". They laughed. "Then, vhy are you in Berlin !". Cruel. Couldn't remember who the winner was but I guess everybody's a winner on that night. I am talking about The Eurovision Song Contest ! The first night was over.
2nd Day. Continue... |
A city on the cutting-edge :Berlin...has often been in the spotlight on the world stage for the past say, 100 years ! Berlin is changing everyday; It has changed; It'll be changing again ? Sure, The Wall...isn't there to see any more, but Berlin is still very much divided ! Before it came down :The Wall...was the most enduring icon of a nation's disharmony. But it's not as if the city hadn't seen it all before. From the civic turmoil of the Thirty Years War, to the devastating impact of the fire-bombing during WWII, Berlin has constantly been under siege or in a post-siege rebuilding phase. Even in the middle of trouble and strife, though, Berliners have continued to live it up. This is the city where cabaret and techno were born. Suffice to say : CHECK THIS CITY OUT !
