Half day in Santa Barbara

by vigi - last update: Jul 15, 2004

Santa Barbara is a beautiful Spanish styled beachside town that sits right in between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Two hours drive north of Los Angeles, this sunny oasis offers more to visitors than just a glimpse of commuters escape at the end of the day. I enjoyed walking on the beach, cycling, watching kids doing skateboarding. The city is small and you are never far from anything. Several buildings from the Spanish occupation in the 18th century survived the big earthquake of 1925. Most of the other buildings disappeared, and the town was completely remodeled and rebuilt in Spanish style.

Hi Virginia, you have some wonderful pages. I will have to visit more. Take my boat from Oxnard to SB several times each year, just this June. Doug

It seems to me that you should have gotten out of your car and walked around. Cheap? I wish! The beaches, yeah the water is WAY to cold for leisurely swimming, but there are a lot of places that rent kayaks and take you on fabulous tours!

I think I would enjoy the Spanish architecture. Love your photo of the flowers. Thanks!
