Soi Kasemsan 1: Guest House - Siam Square Area

  • Soi Kasemsan 1 is a small lane in Siam Area. Altough Siam is known as an upscale hotel district, several good-value gueshouses with rooms under 600 Bhat can be found in this alley opposite the National Stdium on Rama I Road. Hotels are bunched together here, it's easy to find a room upon arrival. I love to stay here: Quiet, convenient, cheap.

    WHITE LODGE - Siam

  • Slightly cheaper than other guest house in the Soi. It's also the most popular guest house in the Soi, perhaps because Lonely Planet. The room is big. All rooms have air conditioning, hot showers and have a open-air balcony with tea tables & chairs, we can sit outside our room to breath some fresh air, which is the best thing I like about White Lodge. Room rate 400-600 Bhat.

  • Clean walk-up guest house, well appointedrooms with private baths, hot & cold water, clean towels. Reasonable priced priced at 500 Baht per night 2,520 per week or 9,000 Baht per month. The room is the most cleanest and decent among the 4 other hostels I have stayed in Bangkok. Laundry service available.

  • As you enter Soi Kasemsan 1, Muangphol Mansion is the first Hotel on the left hand side. There are 78 rooms.
The restaurant is comfortable serving lunch set (fried rice & pad thai with drinks) at 35 Bhat. Rooms have Airconditioning and hot water. Prices range from 450-600 Baht per night or from 10,000 15,000 Baht per month. The rooms are old and dirty compared to other hostels I've stayed in the same soi.

KHAOSAN PALACE INN - Khao San Road: Expensive, Noisy, and NO Electric Socket!!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Expensive place! Not only in Khao San Road standard, but also more expensive than other hostels among Bangkok. I couldn't find a clean place to sleep when I arrived Khao San Road at 1:30am in the morning, all the better rooms were occupied. I paid 650 Bhat for a double room here, without toilet papers, no towels, and most amazing thing is: no electric socket in the room. I have to climed up the table, unplug the TV (which is hang up on ceiling) in order to charge my camera batteries. Obviously they don't want customer to charge their electric appliances!

    Khaosan Road
  • Tip Rating:
  • the most popular backpackers destination in Bangkok, lined with bars, clubs, and sidewalk cafés. Fan room as cheap as 150 Bhat per night.

Unique Qualities: Along Khao San Road, you'll find all sorts of "street snack", from common Fried Rice, Omellete, famous Pad Thai, to all sorts of fried insects (e.g. Grasshoppers, beetles, scorpions, ants, and grubs). Although as a Chinese, I'll eat pretty much anything, but I still scare to taste the bugs.

HOLIDAY INN BANGKOK: Convenient City Centre Location
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Locate right opposite to the World Trade Centre and Beer Garden, this newly renovated hotel is very convenient. The room was comfortable but not big (actually, considered small in Thailand standard), and no bath tub in the room, only shower. The complementary fruit basket was good. I finished one whole big dragon fruit, very sweet and juicy! yum!!

Rama Gardens Hotel Bangkok: Very Nice Hotel!! Near to Airport. Compare Rates
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • 15 mins by taxi from airport, but far from city centre. I didn't expect this hotel to be so good, as the outlook was very old, and I wasn't sure how many stars they got.

I stayed in the new wing "The Grand Courtyard". The room was big and spacious, with bath tub next to the window. The pillow was very comfortable. :)

Rama Gardens Hotel Bangkok: Bath tub by the window Compare Rates
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • This is the bath tub, cool view by the window. However, the bathtub was a bit dusty. Maybe no people use it for long time (normally they serve business travellers, who are too busy to take a bath?). I need to clean it up before soaking myself into it.

Patpong was great for the night market... and at first the "you wanna see smoking pussy" was amusing, but it did get the better of me. The markets are worth it though... great to read through your pages!!
