I have heard so much about this Full Moon Party, being a party animal, I decided to come down to experience this "biggest party in Asian" by myself. Without disappointment, it is worth travelling 19 hours from Bangkok.
Full Moon Party seems to be the only thing here, the water is badly polluted, the beach and scenery is good though. Thousands of people from all around the world. Tons of good looking guys (girls as well) from all nationalities! Wow! I just couldn't stop my eyes browsing!
This "never ending party" from dust till dawn. You can find all kinds of music here: techno, breakz, trance, commercial tracks... people are happy and friendly. Alcohol is so cheap over here, 250 Bhat for a big bucket of mixed red bull liquor. Some people use drugs but not all, it is far more safe than I read from books.
Jugglers and fire-eaters entertain the crowds as the night goes on and with the brilliant fireworks display, the party atmosphere is complete.
Personally, I love the "beofore-party" more. The actual full moon nite was over crowded. But the con of pre-party is that music must be stopped at 2am, nite too short.
Reminder: Wear your shoes to the party, lotsa broken glasses on the beach.
Sorry guys, I did not bring my camera down to the party, so, if you want, go down to see it yourself! I will definately go back there again!

Haad Rin Beach is the regular venue for these lunar parties. This beautiful beach is transformed at night into a huge party zone. DJs from all over the world, sound stages, impressive neon installations, umpteen drink and food bars, fireworks and up to ten thousand party animals from around the globe make this celebration very special.
Upon arrival on Koh Phangan, all luxury materialistic desires disappeared. All I need is FOOD, LIQUOR, MUSIC & SUN. All other things... don't boarder!
HOW THE FULL MOON PARTY STARTED?
Back in year 1987, at that time, there's nothing to do at Koh Phangan, no electric no roads access, there was only a sand path between the sunrise and sunset side. The highlight if the day was to go over and see if anyone was coming over from Samui on boat.
There started the Farangs (an italian, a swiss guy, and a British guy) who were staying on the Paradise Bunglows at sunrise side would walk over to the sunset side to meet other Farangs staying there. The place wasn't set yet but it was normally near Palm Bunglows and Coral Bunglows. They would light a fire on the beach, gather around, play guitars and smoke. A Thai guy would provide some food and play music powered from
a car battery on the beach. Thais have no idea why they do this but they were happy because the Farangs always bought some beer and liquor off them. It was the first Full Moon Party preceeded by this gangs.
When these guys return from the sunset side after Full Moon Party, Thais at Paradise Bunglows would ask them where they had been and why. Knowing they spent lotsa money at another bunglow, each time when Full Moon was approaching, Paradise would ask them to have the party over there but these Farangs did not bother changing the venue.
After 18 months when this British guys returned to Koh Phangan, the party venue have been changed to Paradise Bunglows on the sunrise side. And this is where it has stayed but expanded all along the beach.
