some facts about Lviv This beautiful city is the heart of the Western Ukraine . It was founded in XIII century by the king Danylo Halytskyi , who named city after his son and heir Lev. First written mention of Lviv goes to 1256, although archeological excavation in 1993 revealed that first settelments appeared here in the 6th century. City occupies an area of 155 sq. Km. The population is 830 thousand. Lviv is rich with monuments, museums and churches .In 1998 Lviv was officially included in the UNESCO list of World Monuments of Architecture.By the way do not worry if it happen so that you are going to visit Lviv and do not have at all time to prepare the trip and to read something about this city. Geographically and historically Lviv play an important part in intercommunications between Westrn and Eastern Europe. As a result the architecture of the city is mostely European, inhabitants are mostely Ukranians, but Poles, Jews, Russians, Germans , Czechs are also presented. |
