Varangéville - les mirabelles

The mirabelle fruit is sacred in my family. my grand mother owns a plantation of 50 trees in the village where she was born, and every year in August we go to collect them. We do cakes, marmelade, and eau de vie out of it.
The taste of this goldy pinky fruit is never better than when you pick them on the ground or from the tree while they are still warm from the sun.
This is where I am from.

Goler means that with a huge stick and a hook, you catch a tree branch and move it so the mature fruit fall.
Prior to this you first lay a wide cover under the tree so the fruit fall on it and not in the grass. It's easier then to gather them.

old experienced monkeys can also do the goler directly in the tree...

then everyone collect the fallen fruit from the ground. Eat all you can, there will still be more than enough to take home!

Then we gather around a delicious pique nique. très campagnard.

and of course, the most important before returning to work: LA SIESTE!!
