Many local inhabitants used to have a very negative to visitors especially to visitors from the Swedish mainland, the reason is that many visitors behaved very rude and tend to be superior.
This attitude has started to change (from both side) especially as the local inhabitants realise they are very dependent on the three annual months of tourism for their income.
Also if you're going to the countryside of Gotland please be aware that many people have a low level of English or don't speek it at all, however if you do behave in a nice way they will do their best to help you anyway.
