Stora och lilla Karlsö (the big and the little Karl-islands). These two islands are located west of Gotland. They are famous for their unique nature and the different birdspecies. In the summer many sheep live free here. You can go on tours around these two islands and admire the beautiful nature.

Ljugarn is a nice village in southeastern Gotland with many small nice restaurants and nice beaches. North of Ljugarn there is an area with "rauks" called Folhammar.

Hemse is a small town in southern Gotland but the maintown there. If you want to go shopping this town has many small shops including a toystore, supermarkets and banks (which there are not many of in Gotland). Also some restaurants and cafes.

Visby is the only city in Gotland. It's a mediaval city with a long ringwall and narrow streets with small shops. The vikings were here, the Danes and the Germans too, it's a city with a lot of history. Visit 'Stora Torget' (the big square) with the old cathedral, the botanic garden, the beautiful park "Almedalen" and all the ruins which can be found a bit everywhere. Also visit the museum "Gotlands fornsal" where you can see rests found on the island from the Vikings.
The atmosphere in Visby is unique.

In the beginning of the 20th century Gotland had a large railway network with tracks all over the island. The last train left in 1950 between Hemse and Visby. Today there is still a little part of the railway left in Dalhem, nowadays used as a museumrailway. Take this little steemtrain and eat a good lunch in the stationbuilding in "Hesselby".
I think the train normally just runs in the summer.

Kneippbyn is an attraction park just some minutes south of Visby (take the road direction: Klintehamn). Enjoy the waterland, the playareas and visit "Villa Villerkulla", the house of Pippi Longstocking. The famous film from the 60's, now showed all around the world was actually recorded in Visby and its surroundings. In this park there is also a daily theatreplay for children with Pippi.

Directions: South of Visby, easiest is to go there by car (many signs, easy to find). In the summer there are buses leaving from central Visby (free for visitors).

"Hoburgsgubben" (the "old man" of Hoburg). This is actually just a big rock but if you stand in front of it it looks just like an old man with a nose, eyes, mouth etc. Really funny and a popular place to visit.

Directions: Located in the southest point of Gotland. Go south to Burgsvik and continue to 'Hoburgen'. There are many signs. If going by bus, take line 11, there is one daily departure all the way Visby-Hoburgen

Fårö is a separate island located north of Gotland. Visit the English cemetary from the Krim-war, the old port and "Digerhuvud" the largest area with "rauks" in Gotland. This is also the island where the famous director Ingemar Bergman lives.

Directions: Go to Fårösund in northern Gotland either by car or bus (bus 21). In Fårösund there is a free ferry to Fårö.
