Don't go to "rue Saint-Denis" (Saint Denis street). This is the street where you will find all the prostitudes (there are not few of them in Paris) and it can be really dangerous during evenings and nights. There are also many sexclubs here with eager men standing outside trying to get people inside. The street lies between "Les halles" and up, north to "Boulevard Haussmann". NEVER walk there alone.

Even if Paris is a touristic city few people speak English. You can manage with English at the airports, hotels, tourist attractions and larger restaurants, otherwise as the frenchmen say, ça va pas (it's not going). A good idea is to learn some words and phrases and you'll easier get understood and the frenchmen will pay you more attention.

Be aware of the pickpockets in Paris, many many tourists come here every year and so do the pickpockets... Especially be careful around the tourist attractions and in the metro.

Yes I agree Etap hotels are very good value. However this was the first one I stayed in in Paris and compared with the ones I've stayed in Germary the breakfast was very poor | ZanieOR Sat May 1, 2004 19:37 UTC
