  • A very nice hotel situated just 10 mins walk from the Opera with many restaurants and cafes nearby. The elevator is a bit too small but the rooms are OK and the location is superb. About 120 Euros for a double room per night. The breakfast was not included in the price.

  • Stayed here some years ago and was pretty satisfied. Situated just between Gare du nord and Gare de l'est (two of the northern railway stations) and is neither far from Montmartre and Sacre Coeur.
Many Metro-lines pass Gare du nord so you can get to central Paris (place de l'opera) in no time.

Unique Qualities: Nice rooms with TV and own bathroom. Friendly staff and a simple but tasty breakfast.
OK standard, no extra facilities in the hotel, but still overall a nice experience.

ETAP hotel: A good standard, good value for money hotel

  • The hotel is very new (built in late 90's) and has a good standard.
A single room was (at the beginning of 2004) 47 Euro for a room with single occupancy or 50 Euro for a room occupied by two or three persons.
Breakfast is not included in the rate but is only 4 Euro extra per person.
The location is in the 19th district in northeastern Paris, it may not be very central but with the Metro-station only 5 minutes walk from the hotel it is easy and quick to get to the main attractions.

Unique Qualities: Nice hotel and generally friendly staff.
All rooms (or at least most rooms) have a double bed and an extra bed. They are also equiped with a bathroom (toilet and shower) and a TV.
The standard is basic but considering the price and the location it is really good value for money.
The breakfast is also basic, a small buffet but still completely adequate.
There are vending machines in the lobby and some shops and cafes on the main street outside (Avenue Jean Jaures).

Yes I agree Etap hotels are very good value. However this was the first one I stayed in in Paris and compared with the ones I've stayed in Germary the breakfast was very poor

My first trip to Europe is coming up, and while I'm going to stay in London, Paris is definitely on my second trip itinerary. Thank you for the good tips!
