It has been some 70 years since PV was hit by a hurricane - on the 26th of October/02 it happened again. No human loss was reported, however many businesses were destroyed. Most shops etc along the malecon were damaged. I've heard horror stories from people who happened to be there at that time; tales of giant waves hitting the streets, grabbing whatever was on their way and pulling it back to the sea; waves climbing several story hotels, going over them and hitting the next streets.
It seems that the South side sustained the least damage, with Centro having lost most of malecon and front businesses and the North side luxury hotels still being out of power two weeks later.
