New Jersey was my absolutely favorite place to visit during summer - every shopkeeper just wanted your money regardless your color or accent which was, from my point of view, quite an accomplishment compared to PA. It continuously turned into a local cultural shock when past the state border with PA it was no longer required to repeat the same sentence over and over again accompanied by a bored yawn from PA official with "say what?" I am not being mean on purpose here but I grew tired of snobbish attitudes and complete lack of multicultural sensibilities in PA.
Truthfully if I could afford all year weekend I would have moved to "New Joycee" where nobody cares as opposed to living in PA where even a trace of an accent makes one an undesirable allien.
Roads are well maintained; signs are where they're expected to be; deer crossing is a predictable hazard and along the shore people are friendly and accommodating. Closer you get to NYC sooner your sense of safe well being changes but why would you want to go that direction? Once you enter a landmark of Atlantic City and shiver with malaria like symptoms over drastic discrepancy between the false splendor of towering gambling structures and poverty behind it in shacks and dimly lit streets, proceed south along the coastline to where sand is just sand and sea waves are modified to your enjoyment :)
