Hamburg is Germany's biggest industrial city, it's centre was totally destroyed in the Great Fire of 1842 and again by bombing in 1943, it is an extraordinarily beautiful city and worth a visit. 1.8 million inhabitants and an area of 755 square kilometres.
The Alster, together with the Elbe and numerous canals, and the parks adjoining them give Hamburg the fine image of a " green " metropolis at the water's edge.
Hamburg has a reputation as a centre of culture and entertainment. Countless houses of entertainment (of all kinds) in the Reeperbahn district, which never closes, world-famous Fischmarkt on Sunday mornings...
